TASHKENT INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE FORUM “TIIF-2009”
4-7 June 2009, Tashkent
The policy focused on liberalization and modernization of the country’s economy,
diversification of its structure based on the principles of the “Uzbek model” of
economic development, pursued today in Uzbekistan, has allowed to ensure
stability and balance of the economy, as well as to achieve high economic growth
rates.
Obviously, the high economic growth rates in Uzbekistan have been provided,
first of all, thanks to deep structural changes in the economy. As a
confirmation of that is the fact that the share of services sphere in the
country’s gross domestic product increased from 16.3% in 1991 to 45.3% in 2008.
In this regard, the role of insurance is especially of great importance in the
context of economic reforms, as it stimulates the development of business
activity, improves investment climate and plays special role in ensuring social
protection of the population.
Currently the Uzbek insurance market is demonstrating rapid and sustainable
growth rates, its quality indicators are improving. The volumes of insurance
transactions are growing dynamically, while insurers are playing more
significant role in the country’s economy. The attitude of people to insurance
is bettering gradually, they are trusting more in insurance companies and
approaching seriously to insurance business.
As of 1 April 2009, there were operating 30 insurance companies, one reinsurance
company, three insurance brokers, one actuarial bureau and at least five
assistance firms in Uzbekistan. 29 of insurance companies are rendering their
services in the field of non-life insurance and one is working in the sphere of
life insurance.
Uzbek insurers collected a total of 87.1 billion soums worth insurance premiums
in 2008, which is 18.3% more compared to the previous year. Insurance companies
made 14.2 billion soums worth of payouts in 2008, and this is 62.9% higher than
the indicator of 2007. Insurance payouts growth rate increased more than
threefold in the reporting period.
Tashkent International Insurance Forum (TIIF-2009) opened at the
Intercontinental Tashkent hotel on 4 June 2009. The four-day event is aimed to
discuss priority tasks of insurance and reinsurance business development.
SAIPRO Company organized the forum with official support of the Chamber of
Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Association of Professional
Participants of the Uzbek Insurance Market. One of the leading insurance
companies in Uzbekistan – Kapital Sugurta – is general partner of TIIF-2009.
Top managers of foreign and national insurance, reinsurance, brokers and other
organizations, representatives of ministries and departments, state and public
organizations, heads of foreign insurance market regulators, national and
international associations, investment and auditing companies are participating
in the event.
Among the forum participants are representatives of insurance business from more
than 15 countries, namely Uzbekistan, Great Britain, Germany, Austria, France,
Switzerland, Poland, Bulgaria, Turkey, Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan,
etc. In all, some 200 top managers and experts of insurance sector are taking
part in the forum.
The forum participants will familiarize with the investment opportunities in the
Uzbek insurance market. The event is aimed also to assist in attracting national
and foreign investments in the insurance, as well as to discuss the
possibilities of the Uzbek and Central Asian insurance markets’ integration in
the global insurance community.
TIIF-2009 will promote strengthening ties among national and foreign
representatives of insurance business through creation of a platform for
interactive dialogue.
The forum will consider such issues, as trends and prospects of insurance sphere
development, insurance market infrastructure as a basis of insurance development,
role of reinsurance in the integration into the international insurance market,
perspectives of development of mass insurance products in personal insurance,
etc.
It should be noted that ceremony of awarding winners of Oltin Soyabon (Golden
Umbrella) Prize, founded by SAIPRO Company jointly with the Association of
Professional Participants of the Uzbek Insurance Market, will be held within the
framework of the forum. Oltin Soyabon is a public reward awarded annually in the
sphere of insurance business development. |
